Malappuram: The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) is looking into the possibilities of contesting in north Indian states in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections by aligning with the INDIA bloc. Presently, IUML is contesting two seats in Kerala and one in Tamil Nadu.

The decision was taken in a meeting held in Malappuram on Friday. The Youth League national committee had also come forward with a similar demand.

IUML state president, Panakkad Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal, is entrusted to opt for the candidates who would contest for the party in the Lok Sabha polls from Kerala. In Tamil Nadu, IUML will align alongside the DMK and contest the elections. The members also pledged complete support to the INDIA bloc.

Following the meeting, IUML National General Secretary PK Kunhalikutty MLA said they are yet to finalise the total number of seats in which they will contest in Kerala. When asked if the League will seek three seats in Kerala, Sadiq Ali Thangal said, "Why should IUML be restricted to three seats?" He added that being in an alliance requires 'discussions' and 'compromises'.
