Lambda test: Issuance of pollution certificate ceases due to inferior quality machines

Kozhikode: Vehicle owners in the state are struggling due to lack of quality machines at pollution testing centres to conduct the Lamda test, which was recently made mandatory by the central government. Due to this, many vehicle owners are unable to renew their pollution certificates on time. 

The Lambda test was made mandatory for BS-4 vehicles as per the norms laid down by the Central Government. The same applies to BS-6 vehicles from December 9 onwards.

Following this, many pollution centres bought machines to conduct the test. However, the test results were found to be incorrect. Further, an inspection by the Motor Vehicle Department found that these machines were of inferior quality.

The companies that sell the machines failed to reply to a notice issued by the Transport Commissioner requesting them to provide quality machinery. Krishnan Ambati, state general secretary of the Vehicle Emission Testing Owners' Association, said that companies have now asked pollution testing centres to order machines immediately, or else they will have to wait for a much longer time.
