In-flight protest: Police to impose KAAPA on Youth Congress leader

Kannur: Police will book charges under Kerala Anti-Social Activities Prevention Act (KAAPA) on Youth Congress leader Farseen Majeed, accused in the case over in-flight protest against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. It is learnt that police is planning to impose KAAPA on the Youth Congress leader in cases related to alleged murder attempt against Chief Minister. The police have approached the district collector seeking permission to impose KAAPA on the accused.
Kannur district collector has received the request for the same from an official in DIG Rank. According to police, Farseen should be banished from Kannur district in view of the seriousness of the offenses committed by him. In the report, police cited that allowing Farseen to stay in Kannur will affect the law and order in the district.
Hence, police demanded to banish Farseen after imposing KAAPA on him. In the request before the district collector, the police mentioned about Farseen’s involvement in attempt to murder Chief Minister, conspiracy for the same and other cases against him.
The district collector has been asked to approve the request and forward it to a committee which grants final approval for the same.
Farseen will be given chance to argue against the charges. Either the accused or his lawyer will have to appear before the committee. Police have already issued a notice to Farseen regarding this.
Mattannur police prepared the report in the case. The report include details of the cases registered against Farseen from 2018.
Meanwhile, Farseen Majeed and Congress leaders reacted that the government is taking political vengeance by using police.
