IMD forecasts thundershowers in Kerala till October 20, issues yellow alert

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday forecasted thundershowers in Kerala till October 20. 

"Rain or thundershowers is most likely to occur at most places in Kerala from 14th to 20th October 2023," the IMD release said.

The release added that thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty winds, speed reaching 30-40 Kmph, is very likely to occur at one or two places in the state from 14th to 18th October 2023. Meanwhile, IMD also forecasted the likeliness of heavy rainfall (Yellow alert; 7-11 cm in 24 hours) at isolated places in the following districts for the next five days:

  • October 14: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam & Idukki
  • October 15: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad 
  • October 16: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod
  • October 17:  Kollam, Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad
  • October 18:  Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki and Wayanad
