Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala faction of Indian Medical Association has decided to protest strongly against the Central Government’s decision to give approval for Ayurveda doctors to perform surgery.

The decision was taken by the new administrative committee that was sworn in recently. The representatives said that they will convey their protests by all possible means.

The decision to give permission for Ayurveda doctors to perform surgery will affect how Indian medical degree certificates are received globally. This will destroy the basic structure of Ayurvedic and modern treatment, the committee stated.

The government has given permission for Masters degree holders in Ayurvedic treatment to perform surgery after taking specialised training in ENT, bone, eyes and teeth treatment.

Meanwhile, the Central Council of Indian Medicine President stated that the recent notification is only to inform that this practise is legal although it was being practised on small scale in various Ayurvedic institutions for the past 25 years.
