Kochi: The High Court made a verbal remark that the frequent rise in air fares will stop if a law is passed requiring VVIPs and senior officials to pay for their own tickets. Justice Devan Ramachandran’s remarks came while considering the petition filed by Zainul Abideen, a non-resident businessman and chairman of Safari group, against the increase in air tariff.

The HC ordered that the central and state government should provide an explanation for this increase within a week. The central government lawyer explained that airfare is determined by various market factors and that more time is needed to give an explanation. The plea will be heard again on October 20.
