Wild elephant attacks couple in Idukki: Woman dies, husband sustains injuries

Idukki: A couple from Chattamunnar was attacked by a wild elephant at Shankkarapandyamedu between Aanayirankal Dam and Pooppara in Idukki district. Viji (35) and her husband Kumar was attacked by wild elephants while returning from Tamil Nadu on a bike. The woman died in the tragic incident while the man suffered injuries. The incident happened at 5:50 am.

The couple encountered a herd of wild elephants on the way. When they tried to turn the bike to escape from the herd, the vehicle overturned. The bike fell over Kumar’s body while Viji was lying over the bike. A elephant then attacked Viji and stamped her. Kumar who suffered injury managed to flee from the spot while Viji succumbed to injuries.

The body of Viji is kept at Adimali Taluk Hospital. Kumar is also undergoing treatment in the same hospital.

Meanwhile, Shankkarapandyamedu is a place where wild elephant herds are found. The workers in the region are constantly attacked by elephants.
