Cherthala: A case has been filed based on a honey trapping case in which money was extorted from a government official’s brother. Kakarapalli native Jeemon threatened the man by alleging an illicit relationship with his wife Rekha. A case has been registered against Jemon and Rekha who are currently at large.

Rekha met the complainant’s brother seeking a job for her son in the gulf countries. Later, Jeemon, Rekha’s husband, came forward with allegations that they were involved in an illicit relationship. Rs 55,000 and Rs 30,000 were taken from the man by threatening him in this manner.

Subsequently, Jeemon approached the complainant., the government official with the same allegations. He demanded Rs 10 lakh and 4 sovereigns of gold. Upon inquiry, the complainant realised that the allegation was a hoax to extort money. This is when she decided to lodge a complaint with the police.

Upon police probe, similar cams by the couple in Maruthorvattom and Kottarakara came to light. In both places, similar allegations were raised. Further investigation will be required to learn if more people have been cheated in this manner.

In 2018, they had extorted Rs 3 lakh by threatening a teacher living on rent in Cherthala about her husband’s illicit affair. It is while this case is in proceedings that the couple extorted money from another individual.
