Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant move, the Kerala Government will soon make High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) mandatory for old vehicles in the state. According to recent reports, the Transport Commissionerate has submitted a recommendation to the government.

The central government has made super security number plates mandatory beginning April 2019 in order to stop vehicle-related crimes and ensure public safety.

These number plates are to be fitted by the manufacturers for new vehicles in the market and by government-approved agencies for those vehicles already in use. Meanwhile, the Union Government has authorised 18 companies in the state to install these number plates. These businesses now require final clearance from the state government.

In May 2023, the High Court ordered that HSRP should be made mandatory for old vehicles within three months.
