‘He is a compassionate soul with a Left-leaning mind’: Kerala CM showers praise on Kamal Haasan

Thiruvananthapuram: Kamal Haasan is a personality who has found a permanent place in the hearts of Keralites, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He added that Kamal Haasan is a man with a Leftist mindset and has proven himself to be more than just an artist—someone who has led a socially engaged life. The Chief Minister was speaking at the screening of the documentary Pinarayi: The Legend held in Thiruvananthapuram.
Kamal Haasan had arrived in Thiruvananthapuram in connection with the screening of the documentary on Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, produced by the Kerala Secretariat Employees Association. The event was held at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Stadium on Wednesday as part of the ninth anniversary celebrations of the Pinarayi government.
"Kamal Haasan is a personality who has found a lasting place in the hearts of Kerala. He is an artist who has shown that there is life beyond art—one that is socially responsible. He is a man with a compassionate, Left-leaning mindset," said Pinarayi Vijayan, referring to Kamal Haasan who was present on the dais.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that he had watched the documentary produced by the association and had reflected on the kind of backlash those involved in its making might have to face. “I watched the documentary and wondered what all kinds of criticism they would have to endure for this. But there is a small issue—they have shown my mother’s name incorrectly in the documentary,” Pinarayi remarked.
"The people wanted the LDF government to continue. They made history by bringing us back to power. There was strong public participation in the fourth anniversary celebrations of the government. Many ideas and suggestions were presented during those meetings. I, as an individual, have not been working in this land solely on the strength of my own abilities. I am a product of my party. The LDF government came to power in 2016. Over the past nine years, Kerala has achieved accomplishments we can be proud of," the Chief Minister said.
