Spelling mistakes on CM's police medals; embarrassed govt asks recipients to return it

Thiruvananthapuram: There is egg on the face of government as spelling mistakes have been spotted on the police medals issued by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on November 1, Kerala Piravi day, which was also being celebrated as Language day (Bhasha dinam). The grave spelling mistakes engraved in the medals have embarrassed the Home Department and have become a topic of ridicule on social media.
The spelling mistakes in the medals, which are considered one of the dignified honors for police personnel in the state, have caused great shame for the government, especially since they were awarded on Kerala Piravi Day. It was only when some of the recipients checked their medals that the mistakes were discovered.
This was immediately reported to the top officials, and the DGP intervened without delay, asking the medal recipients to return their medals immediately. The DGP also requested that the agency contracted to make the medals should correct the mistakes and redistribute them as soon as possible.
On the medals, it was written in Malayalam "Mukhyamanthrayude" instead of "Mukhyamanthriyude" and "polace medan" for "police medal."
It is said that the police officials who received the medals for their meritorious service from the CM felt disheartened. According to officials, 264 individuals were awarded the medals on Friday during a function held at SAP Ground, Thiruvananthapuram. Mistakes were found on around half of the medals issued.
It is alleged that the officials did not check the medals before distribution. The DGP was responsible for presenting the medals to the CM for distribution, and unfortunately, he did not notice the mistakes before the function.
