Kollam: SNDP General Secretary Vellappally Natesan hit out at the government in the appointment of Vice Chancellor to the Sree Narayana Guru open university.

Vellappally alleged that the government has hurt the ‘Sreenarayaneeya’ community and an NRI was appointed as VC upon the insistence of KT Jaleel.

He also said that the government succumbs to the demands made by minority communities and organized powers. He was speaking to the media in Kollam.

Vellappally pointed out that the government made the inauguration function of the University into a political ‘mamangam’ and that SNDP authorities were not invited to the function.

The government has repeated its habit of avoiding the backward section of people this time as well. Minister KT Jaleel was stubborn in appointing the Malabar-based NRI as the VC of the University.

Vellappally alleged that the government acted this way as they belonged to the Dalit section of society and that if it was any other section, then the government would have visited their homes and held discussion.

The SNDP community demanded that a member of Sree Narayaneeya community should be made the head of the university, which was established in Kollam. Vellappally came forward with the criticism after government took the decision without consulting SNDP authorities.
