Good samaritan from Thrissur to donate kidney to stranger

Thrissur: Shaiju, a 43-year-old native of Pullu in Thrissur has decided to donate one of his kidneys to Sumesh, a native of Anthikad.

Shaiju promised to donate his kidney after a group of people approached him seeking financial help for Sumesh's kidney transplant. Despite not having any connection or prior knowledge of Sumesh, Shaiju promised that he was ready to donate his kidney to Sumesh. They only met each other during the kidney cross-matching test as part of the donation.

'Sumesh is struggling financially, and the kidney he was bound to receive failed the matching test. It was then I got ready to donate a kidney. The surgery is on Monday. I understand that there is no problem with giving a kidney. If more people come forward to donate their kidneys like this, more people can be brought back to life," Shaiju said.

The surgery was postponed from March after Shaiju contracted Covid-19.
