887 gms of gold seized from Karipur International Airport

Malappuram: The police seized 887 gms of gold from a person who tried to smuggle it from Karipur International Airport. In the incident, a passenger and two others who had come to the airport to collect the gold were taken into police custody. Gold worth more than Rs. 63 lakhs was seized by the police.

Mohammad (28), a native of Nadapuram, who landed at Karipur airport at 8:30 am on Sunday from Muscat, was arrested by the police outside the airport. He had tried to smuggle the gold by hiding it inside three capsules.

Kuttiadi natives Sajir (32) and Abu Salih (36), who were waiting outside the airport to collect the smuggled gold, were also taken into custody by the police. They have also seized the vehicle and the ransom amount of Rs. 70000 as well. 

According to the report, it is said that the gold was smuggled for a person named Ramshad aka Aachi, a native of Kuttiadi. The seized gold will be submitted to the court. The police are conducting a detailed interrogation.
