Foundation stone laid for Mariyakutty’s new house

Adimali: The foundation stone has been laid for the house being constructed for Mariakutty by KPCC. The stone was laid by KPCC vice president VP Sajeendran and advocate Dean Kuriakose MP. Other Congress leaders were also present during the event.
The new house is being constructed in the region called 200 Acre. Mariakutty’s old house on her plot was demolished and a new building will come up.
It should be noted that, as part of their protest against the Kerala government for not receiving their widow pensions on time, Mariakutty and her friend Anna had sought alms on the streets in November last year. The incident grabbed headlines and stirred up a political storm in the state.
The old woman was subjected to cyber attacks by left wing supporters. They even ran a false campaign online stating that Mariakutty was rich and affluent. However, the determined woman proved all the claims wrong. Amidst the mayhem, KPCC president had promised to construct a new house for Mariakutty within two months. But the construction works got delayed owing to time involved in attaining various permits for beginning the works.
Adimali block Congress committee is overseeing the construction activities. Out of the total Rs 5 lakhs sanctioned for the purpose, KPCC has handed over Rs 2 lakhs to the committee.
