Farmers, political parties should jointly protest against Centre's farm policy: VS Sunil Kumar

Thrissur: State Minister for Agriculture V S Sunil Kumar said that the farmers and political parties in Kerala should come forward jointly against the agricultural policy of the central government. All farmers in the country have opposed the farm sector reforms bills introduced by the central government. The Modi-led government is crucifying the farmers, the minister said.

The state government is implementing an alternative system to fight the corporates through cooperative societies. Being a consumer state, the controversial bills will be a heavy blow on Kerala, the minister made it clear.

The farmers are starving across the country. We have seen how export policies have forced the farmers to suicide earlier. The central government has moved to the next phase of this reform without having any mercy. Even the remaining measures of security will be taken away from agriculture sector with this.

The central government is keeping quiet about the Swaminathan Commission which was appointed for protecting the farmers. If these bills are intended for the welfare of farmers, the government should first legislate the laws suggested by these reports, the minister said.
