Thrissur: Excise Minister MB Rajesh on Sunday phoned beauty parlour owner Sheela Sunny, who was arrested and jailed for 72 days in a false LSD stamp case in Chalakudy, and expressed grief over the row. "The minister has assured that my innocence will be proved in the court and strict action taken against those responsible," Sheela told Mathrubhumi News.

It is learnt that Irinjalakuda excise inspector K Satheesan, who arrested Sheela in the case, has been suspended citing severe lapses. Earlier, Satheesan was transferred to the Malappuram range office while the Excise Vigilance Department carried out the investigation.

According to the report submitted by the crime branch department of the excise, information about the presence of LSD stamps at Sheela’s house was received on Satheesan’s official phone. However, the officer (Satheesan) was not ready to reveal further details.

Meanwhile, the Kerala State Human Rights Commission registered a suo moto case into the incident based on news reports. Commission member VK Beenakumari directed the district police chief to carry out a probe and submit a report within 15 days.

Sheela Sunny to approach HC

As no traces of LSD were found on the seized substance in the laboratory test, Sheela Sunny on Monday will approach the Kerala High Court seeking to quash the case against her. Since the test results are negative, the prosecution is not likely to oppose the petition.

Further, Minister MB Rajesh also stated that the court will be informed of Sheela’s innocence. Investigation is underway to trace the identity of the person who tipped off the official about Sheela Sunny claiming she allegedly dealt with the highly potent LSD stamps.
