Fraud doctor: Accused used another doc's ID, worked in multiple hospitals before being thrown out

Kozhikode: Abu Abraham Luke, arrested for posing as a doctor following the death of a patient at TMH Hospital in Kottakadavu, Kozhikode, has been found to have practised at over nine hospitals across Malappuram district prior to his employment here. He gained a reputation among patients who sought his treatment, believing him to be a qualified physician, and many returned for further visits.
His appointment occurred when hospital authorities sought to fill a vacancy for a Resident Medical Officer (RMO). During this process, Abu Luke, who came through a reference, provided registration number that actually belonged to another person, Abu P Xavier. When questioned about the discrepancy, he claimed to have two names. The hospitals where he had previously worked spoke positively about him. Hospital authorities also noted that many patients regularly visited Abu Abraham, who worked at this hospital only two days a week.
However, during the investigation, it was found that he had not completed MBBS degree. This revelation led to his dismissal from the hospital. He had convinced the administration that he was preparing for the NEET exam, and often took leave for his studies after claiming he had completed his degree.
Initially, the family of deceased patient Vinod Kumar had no complaints against him. However, the situation changed when the deceased’s son and daughter-in-law visited the hospital. They were shocked to find that the daughter-in-law recognised Abu Abraham Luke as an old classmate, leading her to inform the hospital that he had never completed his medical studies.
Abu Abraham Luke, originally from Thiruvalla, moved to Kozhikode in 2011 to pursue MBBS at a private medical college. He failed his semester exams and never completed his degree. Using the registration number of someone else with a similar name, he began practising medicine. Police are now working to locate the actual owner of the registration number. Abu Abraham Luke, who is married to a doctor from Kozhikode, continued to live in the area after his studies.
