Thrissur: Unidentified individuals reportedly hurled an explosive device at a house near the residence of BJP State Vice President Sobha Surendran in Thrissur on Friday night. The incident occurred at approximately 10:45 PM near the Ayyanthole Ground.

Residents in the vicinity became aware of the incident after hearing a loud explosion. Sobha Surendran was present in her house at the time of the incident.

Authorities suspect that the attackers may have mistaken the neighbour’s house for Sobha’s residence. The Thrissur City Police, under the direction of the City Police Commissioner, have launched a detailed investigation, which includes a review of CCTV footage from the area.

Local residents informed the police that they saw a car behaving suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident.

Speaking to the media, Sobha Surendran confirmed that the explosion occurred at 10:44 PM and described the sound as extremely loud. She stated that the perpetrators must be identified and brought to justice. According to her, the attackers appeared to be targeting the residence specifically, as the device landed directly at the gate. “If the intent wasn’t to target the house, they could have thrown it to the left or right. It seems deliberate,” she said.

Police and BJP party workers arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
