Ernakulam becomes Kerala's first district to achieve complete digital literacy

Kakkanad: Ernakulam district has been declared the first in the state to achieve complete digital literacy.

The announcement was made by district collector NSK Umesh and district panchayat president Manoj Moothedan on Tuesday. A survey was conducted among 8,36,648 households, identifying 1,92,883 individuals as digitally illiterate. With the help of various voluntary organizations, colleges, Kudumbashree, and the Literacy Mission, these individuals were trained and made digitally literate.

The Kochi Corporation conducted the largest number of surveys in the district, covering 1,47,392 individuals. It also had the highest number of literate, with 11,958 people gaining digital literacy. Among municipalities, Thrippunithura conducted the most surveys with 24,438 individuals, while Kalamassery had the highest number of literates at 5,938.

At the panchayat level, Edathala conducted the highest number of surveys, covering 15,270 individuals, and also had the highest number of literates, with 7,309 people gaining digital literacy. On August 14, Muvattupuzha Municipality was declared the first municipality, and Ayavana Panchayat the first panchayat, to achieve complete digital literacy. Muvattupuzha was also announced as the first constituency in the country to achieve complete digital literacy under the "DG Kerala" project, on September 30.

Abdullah Maulavi (99 years) from Asamannoor Panchayat was recognized as the oldest person to achieve digital literacy in the district. Other key officials present at the event included Joint Director of Local Self Government Department KJ Joy, Deputy Director Vidhu A Menon, District Literacy Mission Coordinator VV Shyamlal, Kudumbashree District Mission Coordinator TM Regina, Town Planner Mitsy Thomas, Assistant Director Subrahmanian, and Community Development Expert Amrutha Murali.
