EP Jayarajan strikes again, files defamation case against Sobha Surendran

Kannur: E P Jayarajan, the LDF convener and senior CPM leader, has taken legal action against BJP leader Sobha Surendran, filing a defamation case against her at the Kannur Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. 

Sobha Surendran earlier alleged that Jayarajan had held talks with the BJP leadership to join the saffron party. Following her allegations, political broker T G Nandakumar has also revealed that in his presence, BJP Kerala in-charge Prakash Javadekar had met Jayarajan. On polling day, Jayarajan himself confirmed that he had met Javadekar, inviting the wrath of the CPM leadership.

The party had then directed Jayarajan to take legal action against those,  including Sobha Surendran, who raised baseless allegations against him. 

So he had filed a complaint with the Kerala Police chief demanding a probe into the “conspiracy” by Sobha Surendran, KPCC president K Sudhakaran and Nandakumar to insult and defame him. Jayarajan had also sought a probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in his complaint.

He had alleged in his complaint that Sobha conspired with Sudhakaran to create unnecessary controversy with regard to Nandakumar and BJP leader Prakash Javadekar meeting him at his son's flat at Akkulam here.

His complaint further stated that Sobha Surendran and Sudhakaran were trying to defame him before society by spreading falsehoods about him.

Jayarajan claimed that he had never met Sobha Surendran in person and only saw her at Oommen Chandy's funeral ceremony.

Before the complaint was filed with the State DGP, Jayarajan had sent a legal notice to Sobha, Sudhakaran and Nandakumar accusing them of carrying out false propaganda against him.

He had also demanded a compensation of Rs 2 crore if the allegations were not retracted and an apology was not given through the media by them.

Jayarajan also refuted Sobha’s assertion that he had expressed interest in joining the BJP, calling it a 'blatant falsehood'.
