Driving school strike: Those unable to take test may face six-month delay

Thiruvananthapuram: Amidst the ongoing dispute between driving school employees and the government, 75,000 persons have been left in limbo, unable to take driving tests. This has led to significant delays in obtaining licences, with affected persons now facing a minimum six-month wait period before they can attempt the test. Many will also have to renew their learner's licence, which are typically issued for a six-month duration. Many appear for the test when the term of the learner’s licence is about to be over. The opportunity that they had been waiting for was lost during the strike.
The timing of the licence test is regulated by the Sarathi software. The scheduling of tests is based on the number of applicants and testing capacity at each office, resulting in further delays for those awaiting their turn. Also, for the majority of persons who have just received training may find it difficult to pass the revised road tests.
