Forgery case accused K Vidya sent to judicial custody

Kozhikode: K Vidya, a PhD scholar and former SFI leader, who is alleged to have forged documents in order to obtain the position of a guest lecturer, has been sent to police custody for two days in connection with the matter.
Mannarkkad First Class Magistrate Court agreed to hear her bail plea on Saturday. She was remanded to judicial custody until July 6.
Earlier today, K Vidya responded to the media following her arrest on Wednesday night that she would legally face allegations against her in the document forgery case.
Vidya's response came while the Agali police were shifting her to Mannarkkad Court.
In her plea filed before the high court, Vidya claimed that the case against her has been "initiated for political reasons" and at any rate "the allegations on the face of it do not attract the offences alleged".
She was booked by the police under sections 465 (forgery), 471 (using forged documents as genuine), and 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.
