Kozhikode: The district has found another reason to celebrate as Dr. V. Venu takes up the position of Chief Secretary in the state. Embarking on his journey from his own hospital in Mukkam, Dr. Venu has transitioned from the realm of medicine to the world of civil service, garnering admiration and respect from his hometown.

Dr. Venu, son of Nadakkavu Vasudeva Panicker, a former central government official, and Dr. P.T. Rajamma, who served at the Kozhikode Medical College, completed his education in Kozhikode itself. In his student years, Venu also showed interest in Kozhikode theatres.

After attending Kendriya Vidyalaya and Malabar Christian College, Dr. Venu earned his M.B.B.S. degree from Kozhikode Medical College. In 1987, he established a hospital in Mukkam and started his medical practice. Dr. M.K. Muneer was Venu’s classmate and a good friend at the Medical College.

Even during his college years, Dr. Venu shared his aspirations for a career in civil service with his classmates. He appeared for the civil service exam in 1988, where he secured a position in the Indian Revenue Service (I.R.S.). Undeterred by the initial result, Venu attempted the exam once again in 1989. Finally, in 1990, he secured the 26th rank, entering Indian Administrative Service (I.A.S.). This marked a pivotal shift from the world of medicine to the realm of administrative leadership.

His first appointment as Thrissur Assistant Collector in 1991 allowed Venu to make significant contributions to the tourism sector. His work with the tourism department played a huge role in fostering growth and development in various districts, including Kozhikode.
