'A conspiracy was orchestrated against him’: Dileep’s lawyer Raman Pillai reacts after acquittal

Kochi: Following his acquittal in the actress assault case, actor Dileep publicly expressed gratitude to his legal team, first thanking senior advocate B Raman Pillai and his colleagues for leading the defence. Moments after exiting the courtroom, Dileep headed straight to Raman Pillai's home, thanked him and touched his feet in an emotional gesture.
Speaking to reporters, Raman Pillai said the verdict aligned with “truth, justice and fairness”, adding that he had expected a fair outcome. The lawyer repeated his longstanding allegation that a conspiracy was orchestrated against Dileep, claiming that a high-ranking police officer drove the case against the actor. His remarks were seen as a direct reference to B Sandhya, who led the investigation.
According to Pillai, statements from witnesses, including the survivor’s mother and actress Remya Nambeesan, confirmed that the survivor had no known enmity within or outside the Malayalam film industry, undermining the conspiracy narrative put forward by the prosecution. Pillai said there was “no true evidence” supporting the allegations against Dileep.
He further accused investigators of deliberately attempting to frame the actor. Pillai claimed that Balachandra Kumar’s removal was “part of the conspiracy” and alleged that a senior officer appointed Baiju Paulose, the most junior member of the team, to lead the probe solely to ensure Dileep was named an accused. He also criticised the registration of an additional case after examining 200 witnesses, describing it as another attempt to implicate the actor.
The actress assault case verdict, delivered by the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court, ended an eight-year legal battle that had shaken the Malayalam film industry and sparked nationwide discussions on gender justice and star power in cinema.
