Kerala is envisioning a future where the identification of homes and property owners becomes digital, with the implementation of the Digi Door PIN system. This initiative will assign a unique, permanent identification number to every building through local bodies.

Developed by Information Kerala Mission and implemented via the K-SMART platform, the PIN system works will be like a phone number, making it easy to remember. The system ensures that each property is linked to a nine- or 10-digit digital PIN, that carries major building details.

A golden number plate incorporating the PIN and a QR code will be installed on each property. Scanning the QR code or entering the number will instantly reveal the location.

Local Self Government Minister MB Rajesh noted that the feasibility of rolling out the system after the ongoing ward delimitation process is being explored.

What the number reveals
The Digi Door PIN will provide details such as the property’s location, ownership, address, and type. Additional data, including tax-related information, will remain accessible only to the owner. Notably, it will exclude land-related details.

The system will provide local self-government and district information and precise building details. It also offers a route map to the property. All properties will be geo-tagged within two metres to ensure accuracy. Number plates will be uniform in design, irrespective of the property's size, status, or importance.

Advantages of the system
The Digi Door PIN will remain unchanged, even if the ward or local body jurisdiction is altered during delimitation. With the PIN, locating a property becomes straightforward. In emergencies such as disasters or accidents, authorities like the police and fire services can quickly reach the location, even without a detailed address. Services, including food delivery, will also benefit from the system. By sharing the PIN, property owners can guide visitors without confusion, ensuring personal data remains secure.
