Thiruvananthapuram: The district conference of the CPM has sharply criticised the functioning of the city corporation. Delegates participating in the discussion emphasised that winning awards alone is insufficient and that retaining power requires the support of the people.

The delegates also expressed concerns about the corporation's poor performance, which they believe jeopardizes the party's chances of returning to power. The delegates also said that unless visible improvements are made to the corporation's functioning, the party may struggle to regain power in 2025. It called for urgent measures to enhance the corporation's performance ahead of the elections.

Delegates urged the corporation to address recurring complaints related to issues such as roads, drinking water, and waste management. Special attention should be given to such sectors so that complaints could be avoided, they warned. They stressed the need for increased funding for local bodies, criticising the current situation where only announcements are being made without actual fund allocations.

Meanwhile, a section of workers has expressed support for Mayor Arya Rajendran. They argued that the UDF and BJP are attacking the mayor from all sides, with propaganda against her being amplified in the media. As a result, they claim that the corporation's positive initiatives are not reaching the public.
