Thiruvananthapuram: Harsh criticisms even over the Chief Minister’s style, failure in governance and the lackadaisical approach of the party in taking relentless stance against certain issues were raised in the CPM State committee meeting which was called to assess the poll debacle.

Earlier, when a demand was raised from some party factions that the approach of the Chief Minister should be changed, the party tried to ignore the same. Some of the leaders participated in the discussion pointed out that if the same approach is adopted, the backlash will repeat itself. The representatives also stated that criticisms, including the ones against the Chief Minister, are not personal. The discussions were held based on the report of the State secretariat regarding the election results.

The government's priority should change. The government should have a priority that can take the people into confidence within the limited economic conditions. Without it, the people will not have any confidence towards the government and the Left. People's attitude will not change even if financial crises are cited repeatedly for the shortcomings of the administration.

That is why the people did not accept the Nava Kerala Sadass of the government which could not provide welfare pension. The leaders said that when the people feel that they are not getting anything from the State government, there is no point in mentioning the financial emergency of the Centre.

Cracks in the Ezhava votes should also be taken seriously. SNDP general secretary Vellappally Natesan's family members are on the anti-Left side, and this had influenced the Ezhava community and was evident in the election result in Alappuzha, observed the leaders. The State secretariat meeting will be held on Friday during which the steps to be taken will be decided.

They also observed that the chief minister could have avoided the foreign travel during the elections. The trip caused unnecessary controversy. Many of the Chief Minister's responses were not acceptable to the people. His intolerance even to the mikes invited public wrath. It is the fault of the central leadership that the Chief Minister had not scheduled a campaign in any other States. The country's only Left Chief Minister’s abroad trip during the election campaign was flayed well by the Opposition, they observed.
