Thiruvananthapuram: A controversy has erupted over the inclusion of a question related to the literary award presented by the CPM mouthpiece 'Deshabhimani' in the Sanskrit scholarship examination for Class 10 conducted by the General Education Department.

The question included in the exam was, 'Who has won this year's Deshabhimani Sahithyapraskaram (Literary Award)?'

National Teachers Union (NTU), a pro-BJP union, accused the general education department of insulting Sanskrit language by including such a frivolous question.

NTU State President P.S. Gopakumar said that only those who read Deshabhimani would be aware of the award.

Some justified the decision, claiming that prominent individuals, such as novelist MT Vasudevan Nair, had accepted the honour.
