Congress not concerned about issues of Muslim community: AK Balan

Thiruvananthapuram: Veteran CPM leader A K Balan claimed that the national leadership of Congress lacked clarity on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He was responding to the Muslim League’s decision to skip the CPM seminar on UCC. League cited not inviting Congress to the event as a reason for its refusal.
“The Congress leadership has different opinions related to the UCC. Going ahead, it will be difficult for the Muslim League to align with the party which still has no clarity on the issue. The misunderstanding among the Congress leaders will eventually irritate the Muslim League cadres,” said A K Balam.
“But the League has no intention to pull out of the UDF front. We are well aware of that. Neither is the CPM willing to forge any alliance with the Muslim League,” he added.
The veteran leader criticised both the BJP and Congress leaderships for not ensuring the welfare of the Muslim communities.
“Currently there are 16 MPs from Kerala in Congress. Is there anyone from the Muslim community in that list? Whereas CPM has only one MP who hails from the minority community,” A K Balan concluded.
