Riyas criticizes Congress's response to CAA, Kejriwal's arrest

Kozhikode: Minister for Public Works and Tourism P A Muhammed Riyas criticized the Congress for its stand on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).

Speaking to reporters in Kozhikode, the CPM leader alleged that the Congress party in the state has conflicting stances regarding the CAA in each panchayat. He also alleged that Opposition leader V D Satheesan has turned into a "megaphone" of the BJP.

"Even Congress leaders in Tami Nadu backed M K Stalin's announcement that the CAA will not be implemented in their state. However, UDF MPs from Kerala have not spoken against CAA in the parliament," he said.

Riyas alleged double standard in the Congress's response to the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal. Last day, P C George said that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will also have a similar fate. Riyas responded to this remark by saying that nothing is going to work out here in the state for the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

On being asked about the controversy regarding the construction of roads in the state capital, Riyas said that the ongoing works would be completed on time. Some contractors tried to sabotage the project. They have been replaced, and the work is progressing well now, the minister added.
