K Sudhakaran to step down as KPCC president; Adoor Prakash among key contenders: Reports

Thiruvananthapuram: Amid the ongoing controversy over Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor's comments against the state leadership, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) is reportedly set for a major overhaul.
According to media reports, KPCC president K Sudhakaran will step down from his office, with names like Adoor Prakash, Benny Behanan, and Roji M. John under consideration as successors. Changes may also occur in the leadership of the District Congress Committees (DCC) across various regions. The reports also suggest that the AICC is in favour of Adoor Prakash, with his name being supported by senior leaders. If confirmed, an official announcement is expected in the first week of March.
A report submitted to the high command is believed to have prompted the senior leadership to initiate a change in the state leadership.
Tharoor rift to be discussed
Meanwhile, the Congress leadership is set to hold a crucial meeting in Delhi on Friday, where election preparation will be the main agenda. However, sources suggest that the ongoing dispute with senior leader Shashi Tharoor will also be addressed, as party leaders aim to emphasize unity ahead of the assembly elections in Kerala next year.
Senior Congress leaders in Kerala, including K. Sudhakaran and Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan, have already been summoned to Delhi, along with former KPCC Presidents and other key figures, as part of the discussions to strategise for the elections and strengthen party unity.
