Thiruvananthapuram: Congress leader Cherian Philip has stated that megastar Mammootty, currently serving as the Chairman of CPM-owned Kairali TV, would  soon sever his ties with the CPM. In a Facebook post, Cherian claimed that while the CPM has utilized Mammootty for the past 25 years to bolster their acceptance among the public, he has not received the recognition he deserves. He added that it is largely due to his connections with the CPM that Mammootty has been denied national-level accolades multiple times.

“Many fellow travelers from the fields of art, literature, and film have distanced themselves from the party. Most are even reluctant to participate in party programmes”, Cherian said.

He pointed out that former MLAs Manjalamkuzhi Ali and Alphons Kannanthanam ended their relationships with the party due to mistreatment from party leaders and workers. Ali, who joined the Muslim League, became a minister, while Kannanthanam, who joined the BJP, went on to become a union minister. Cherian said that KT Jaleel would soon follow Anvar’s path, as he supports the issues raised by Anvar.

“Those who joined the CPM after leaving Congress at various points now find themselves trapped. Although the CPM has offered some of them minor concessions, they have all lost their political relevance,” Cherian, who cut ties with the CPM in 2021 after two decades, remarked. He originally joined the CPM in 2001 after leaving Congress.
