Thiruvananthapuram: Mariyakutty, who took to the streets of Adimali with a begging bowl against the suspension of welfare pension by the Kerala Government, will now have a new house of her own. The key for the newly constructed house will be handed over by the KPCC president K Sudhakaran on Friday.

The new house at Irunnoorekkar in Idukki was built by demolishing Mariyakutty's old house. In January, KPCC vice president V P Sajeendran and Idukki MP Dean Kuriakose laid the foundation for the house.

Meanwhile, Sudhakaran wrote on his Facebook page that Mariyakutty is a symbol of common people who are being haunted by the criminal party of the CPM.

“Congress has brought social security pensions as the right of the poor in this country. However, Vijayan's Government declared in the court that pension is not a right, but a bounty. Not only such announcements, the CPM has also spread false propaganda against poor people like Mariyakutty Chettathy for demanding pensions, shaming them,” he alleged.

“CPM through the new media spread obscene stories about this elderly woman. She was portrayed as extremely wealthy for reacting against the CPM Government. The Indian National Congress decided to hold her close when her life was harmed by the CPM. And as part of it, we have built a house for her. Congress is not a movement of mere words, but a heartfelt feeling of the poor," he added.
