Cong leader approaches SC against HC's interim stay on order cancelling Devikulam election result

Congress leader D Kumar filed a petition in the Supreme Court to defer the Kerala High Court's decision to stay the order cancelling the result of the 2021 Assembly polls at Devikulam constituency in Idukki. Kumar in his plea pointed out that the High Court issued without hearing his side.

Kumar, who was the runner-up in the polls in his plea before High Court had alleged that the winning candidate CPM MLA A Raja was not qualified to contest the Devikulam seat reserved for the Scheduled Caste (SC) community. He also accused Raja of producing fake caste certificates to contest the election.

The court after abjudicating the matter on Monday had cancelled the election result. However, on Tuesday it stayed the order and issued Raja a period of 10 days to approach the Supreme Court.  The move comes in this context.
