Kottayam: In a mistaken identity, a private hospital in Kanjirappally gave the wrong dead body to the family of an octogenarian who passed away there. The family of Shoshamma (86) have lodged a complaint stating that they were given another 80-year-old-woman's body who died on the same day. To make matters worse, Shoshama’s body was cremated by the other family.

Shoshamma died at 9:26 PM on Monday and the body was transferred to the morgue. On Thursday, when the family came to claim the body, the hospital authorities informed them that there had been an error and that Shoshama’s body was given to someone else.

The complaint has been lodged against Mary Queens Mission hospital, Kanjirappally. The relatives said that they will be taking legal action against the hospital.

The family had already made arrangements for Shoshamma’s burial, including preparing a grave. They have decided to bring her ashes and bury it in the grave prepared.
