CJP protest: Rapper Vedan's event organiser booked in Kochi

Kochi: Police have registered a case against the organiser of an event in Panampilly Nagar where rapper Vedan performed songs in support of the ongoing CJP protest in Delhi.

An officer of the Ernakulam South police station said the case was registered on Friday for allegedly organising the event without police permission and obstructing traffic on the road where the programme was held two days ago.

Vedan, whose real name is Hirandas Murali, has not been named as an accused in the FIR. His manager, who was also the organiser of the event, is the main accused, along with around 200 other "identifiable persons" who were present at the programme.

Footballer C.K. Vineeth, rapper Gabri, singer Aloshi, K.K. Shahina, Manisha Radhakrishnan and writer Navami were among those who attended the event along with Vedan. 

Police are currently working to identify those who attended the event, and their names will be added to the FIR, the officer said.

Thousands of students, activists of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and opposition leaders have been protesting in Delhi over alleged irregularities in national-level examinations, including NEET. The protesters are also demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Several actors, filmmakers, cricketers and other cultural icons have extended their support to the protesting students.

Meanwhile, activist Sonam Wangchuk has ended his 26-day indefinite hunger strike after the Centre assured him that several of his key demands would be addressed. The decision came after Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh met Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram around midnight on Thursday and conveyed the government's assurances.
