Chicken feathers found in Biryani: Kozhikode restaurant served notice after customer's protest

Kozhikode, Kerala: The Kozhikode Corporation’s health department has initiated action against Sagar Restaurant near Arayidathupalam following a complaint that chicken feathers were found in a chicken biryani purchased from the establishment.
The action was taken following a complaint filed by Reneesh, a resident of Vengali, who alleged that he found feathers attached to a piece of chicken while transferring the biryani onto a plate.
The incident occurred recently when Reneesh purchased chicken biryani from the restaurant. Upon noticing the feathers, he recorded the incident on his mobile phone and immediately brought the matter to the attention of the restaurant management.
However, Reneesh alleged that the restaurant staff initially dismissed his complaint, telling him not to make a big issue out of it.
According to Reneesh, the staff also challenged him to take whatever action he could, prompting him to stage a protest outside the establishment.
Carrying the biryani, Reneesh sat in protest at the restaurant’s entrance for nearly four hours, demanding accountability over the alleged lapse in food hygiene.
Following his complaint, the Kozhikode Corporation’s health department issued a notice to Sagar Restaurant.
Meanwhile, the restaurant management acknowledged that the mistake was on its part and said it had apologised to Reneesh and explained the circumstances.
However, the management also alleged that Reneesh’s prolonged protest at the entrance had caused inconvenience to other customers visiting the restaurant.
Reneesh has also raised allegations against the supplier from whom the restaurant procures chicken, calling attention to possible lapses in the supply chain.
