Case filed against Malayali nun over forced religious conversion allegation in Chhattisgarh

Raipur: A case has been filed against a Malayali nun in Chhattisgarh for allegedly attempting forced religious conversion. The case has been registered under non-bailable sections against Sister Bincy Joseph, the principal of Holy Cross Nursing College in Kunkuri town, Jashpur district.

The case was filed based on a complaint from a final-year student of the college, who accused the nun of attempting to convert her. Following the complaint, a non-bailable case was registered against Sister Bincy.

However, the Catholic Church has denied the allegations, calling them baseless. According to the college, the student had been irregular in attending classes, both theoretical and practical, and had missed several sessions. Noticing her absence, Sister Bincy reached out to the student and her family, informing them that the student needed to attend at least 80% of classes to be eligible for exams. The student, however, had only attended 32% of classes.

While the student was allowed to sit for the theory exam, the college made it clear that due to her poor attendance, she would not be granted a certificate for the practical exams. Following this, the student filed a complaint with the district collector, alleging religious conversion attempts.
