Brother-in-law of village assistant posed as govt servant for 2.5 years, accepted bribes: Vigilance

Kasaragod: Vigilance recommended disciplinary action against the officials who were allegedly involved in the illegal temporary "appointment" of the village assistant’s brother-in-law at Kalanad village office in Kasaragod. The illegal appointment surfaced during the inspection of the north zone vigilance deputy collector on October 15, 2022.
Village assistant’s brother-in-law K Sujith Kumar was caught red-handed while preparing crucial documents such as inheritance certificates and land conversion certificates at the village office. He attempted to leave the office after recognising the vigilance team.
The vigilance submitted a report to the district collector seeking disciplinary action against village officer PG Ambika, special village officer B Sujesh, and village assistant T Suresh Babu.
The report noted that Sujith Kumar worked in the village office for over two and a half years. His name was not listed in the attendance record of the village office. The vigilance recommended forming a special team and reexamining the revenue documents approved via the vigilance office during this period.
There was no knowledge of Sujith Kumar's temporary appointment by the Kasaragod taluk tehsildar or the land revenue commissionerate.
The report alleged that Sujith Kumar resorted to further proceedings of applications which remained unnoticed by the village officer and received bribes for this from the applicants.
