Brain-dead soldier's organs give seven people a new lease of life in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan on Saturday praised the family of a 30-year-old soldier from Kollam whose decision to donate his organs helped save the lives of seven people.

The soldier, Rahul Rajeev, suffered brain death while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, sources said.

In a post on X, Satheesan said Rajeev, who had served the nation in Himachal Pradesh, donated his organs through the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (K-SOTTO) following his death.

The chief minister also commended the Kerala Police for promptly facilitating a green corridor between Thiruvananthapuram and Thiruvalla to enable the timely transportation of the donated organs for transplantation.

"Rahul's legacy of compassion will forever inspire Keralam," Satheesan said, while conveying his condolences to the bereaved family.

K-SOTTO is the state government's apex body responsible for regulating, coordinating and supervising organ and tissue donation and transplantation activities in Kerala.
