Brahmapuram fire: Govt appoints three-member expert committee for probe

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government appointed a three-member expert committee to probe the landfill fire at Brahmapuram waste treatment plant in Kochi.
The government has demanded the committee to submit a report within a month. The committee comprises the former chairman of Electricity Regulatory Commission and former principal accountant general Preman Dinaraj, environmental scientist Dr Ajayakumar Varma, and CUSAT School of Environmental Studies Prof V Sivanandan Achari.
The committee has to find out the causes of the fire outbreak and recommend guidelines to avoid such incidents in future. In addition to this, the committee is entrusted to identify the officials responsible for the fire, if any lapse was unearthed from the side of the Kochi corporation.
Apart from the investigation proceeding under vigilance and police, a probe team, including legislators will also be appointed to look into Brahmapuram fire, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed the assembly.
