Bodies found in sacks at Attappadi: Police close in on clues; suspects migrant worker

Attappadi: Police are believed to have obtained crucial leads in the case involving the bodies of a child and a woman found stuffed into sacks and dumped in Attappadi. According to reports, the investigation is currently focusing on a migrant worker from the area.

A man believed to be a migrant worker was reportedly spotted in the area a few days ago. He was allegedly accompanied by a woman and a child, who are now reportedly missing.

The bodies had been dumped in three sacks along the banks of the Bhavani River at Cheerakkadavu in Pudur, Attappadi. A forensic examination found that the bodies were approximately 5 days old and had been lying in water.

Intensive investigation

The Bhavani River originates in the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu, flows westward into Kerala and then turns eastward before flowing back into Tamil Nadu. This had initially led to uncertainty over where the crime was committed. Police also conducted investigations in Tamil Nadu to determine whether the bodies had floated downstream from there. Details of missing persons from the area and across the Tamil Nadu border were also collected.

Crucial clue from Biryani rice sacks

The bodies were found in sacks used for biryani rice available in both Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The investigation is focusing on the sacks, and the writing printed on them is believed to have provided the probe team with crucial information.

The murder and disposal of the bodies appear to have been carefully planned. The river had a strong current until three days ago, and investigators suspect the perpetrators may have taken advantage of this before tying the bodies in sacks and dumping them into the river. Police suspect the victims may have been killed elsewhere before their bodies were placed in the sacks and thrown into the river.

Three sacks

Three sacks that had apparently drifted downstream and become lodged along the riverbank were spotted by people who had arrived in the area to graze cattle around noon on Sunday. When the first sack was opened and body parts were found, police were alerted.

During an examination by the police and forensic team, parts including the heads of a woman believed to be around 30 years old and a girl believed to be around 5 years were recovered from the second sack. The third sack contained parts of a woman’s body, with the body found wearing only undergarments. The body had been folded at the waist, with the arms and legs brought together, before being placed inside the sack.

Neck slashed using a machine; Police suspect multiple perpetrators

The bodies had their necks severed using a machine, according to the investigation. Police suspect that the act could not have been carried out by a single person. The bodies were wrapped in plastic and placed inside the sacks. This has strengthened the suspicion that more than one person was involved in the crime. The investigation is also underway to determine where the sacks were purchased.
