Blue-and-yellow macaw escapes Thiruvananthapuram zoo; bird worth ₹4 lakh for a pair

Thiruvananthapuram: A blue-and-yellow macaw has escaped from the Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, taking flight from its enclosure on Friday afternoon. The bird, one of three macaws hatched at the zoo in 2022, managed to get out of its aviary in broad daylight. The missing macaw—distinguished by its vibrant blue and yellow plumage—is estimated to be worth around ₹4 lakh for a pair.
Despite having reached full maturity, the macaw is not accustomed to sourcing food on its own, prompting zoo officials to hope that it might return on its own.
Zoo authorities have urged anyone who spots the bird or has information about its whereabouts to contact them immediately at 0471-2316275.
Meanwhile, concerns have been raised about negligence on the part of the zoo keepers, with some alleging that carelessness led to the bird’s escape.
It is learned that a jungle fowl from the Scheduled species section of the zoo’s veterinary hospital went missing under similar circumstances a couple of weeks ago.
