6-yr-old rape survivor needs long-term treatment, says Child Rights Commission after visit

Balussery (Kozhikode): The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights visited the 6-year-old Nepali girl, who was sexually abused at Unnikulam here the other day.
Commission members Naseer Chaliyam and B Babitha visited the child at Kozhikode medical college on Saturday by 11 in the morning. The commission had registered a suo motu case on the issue and served a notice to the concerned.
Naseer Chaliyam made it clear that the child was severely injured and will have to undergo treatment for a long time. The hospital superintendent informed the Commission that the girl should be treated for 5 days currently. However, more time is required for a complete recovery. An emergency financial help is requested from the government. The commission also urged the government to bear the girl's medical expenses.
It has been found that no basic amenities were arranged for the migrant workers and this is a violation of the labour laws. The family was living in an unsafe house with no proper doors or windows. Action is likely to be taken against the employer of the family for not providing them any facilities.
The commission informed that they will visit the crime spot along with other government departments including police, revenue and excise on Monday.
Balussery police arrested Unnikkulam native Ratheesh (32) on Friday night for raping the 6-year-old girl. The police said that Ratheesh is a voyeur who peeps into others' houses. When he reached the house of Nepali family the other day, the elders were not present there. Following this, he trespassed into the house and raped the child, the police said.
After the arrest, when the police were taking the accused for evidence collection, he attempted suicide at the police station. As per reports, he jumped from the top of the police station building. He was rushed to a hospital with minor injuries. He is currently being treated at the medical college.
