Kanjirappally (Kottayam): In connection with the mysterious death of a 4-day-old baby boy, his mother has been arrested. The woman was identified as Nisha. The baby was found drowned in a bucket of water inside bathroom. The police sources said that the mother confessed to them.

The baby was the sixth child of Thiruvalla native Suresh and Mundakayam native Nisha. They have 3 girls and 2 boys. Nisha's left leg was impaired by birth and she has difficulty walking. The baby was born last Saturday and was found dead on Wednesday. Death by drowning was confirmed in the postmortem held at Kottayam Medical College Hospital.

Nobody was aware that Nisha was pregnant or she delivered a baby. Nisha told police that she decided to hide the matter from others fearing humiliation for having given birth to six children.

The family was facing severe financial constraints. Nisha admitted that she drowned the baby over fear of raising him without money. There have also been instances of Nisha giving birth at their house with the supervision of her husband. The couple moved to this place five years ago.
