Thrissur: After a violent clash erupted between students on Monday night at the D-Zone festival of Calicut University in Mala, new visuals have emerged showing the ambulance carrying Kerala Students Union (KSU) activists being attacked by some people armed with iron rods.

The incident happened around 5 a.m. on Tuesday near Muringoor. The CCTV footage revealed a white car blocking the path of the ambulance. A group of students emerged from the vehicle and began vandalising the ambulance with iron rods. The driver, upon realising the gravity of the situation, managed to escape by driving the ambulance away.

After the visuals went viral on social media, netizens demanded stringent action against the culprits.

The clashes reportedly began around 11.30 pm on Monday due to a dispute over the evaluation of results. The altercation involved activists from the Kerala Students Union (KSU) and the Students Federation of India (SFI). Police intervened to control the situation and disperse the students.

Visuals from the scene showed students attacking each other with iron rods, wooden sticks, and and chairs. The injured were immediately rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. It was during when the ambulance was on it’s way to the hospital it was attacked.

The tensions had been simmering since the start of the festival due to delays in events, issues with result announcements, and inadequate facilities at the venue. A shortage of stages caused significant inconvenience to participants. Competitions scheduled for Tuesday remain uncertain, with several events delayed until the following morning due to extended schedules past 10 pm.
