UDF failed to implement Alappuzha bypass even when they ruled at Centre, alleges Sudhakaran
Alappuzha: Minister for Public Works G Sudhakaran on Thursday said that the Alappuzha bypass project was the result of a successful association of the state and Centre.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the bypass, Sudhakatan stated that the DPR of the project was prepared during the tenure of the previous government and 15 percent of the works were completed by them. The rest of the works was completed by the LDF government, he said.
“The Centre and state together spent Rs 174 crore for the bypass. Apart from this, Rs 7.5 crore was spent by PWD to get approval from the Railways. The LDF government’s dedication resulted in realising the project. Anyone can achieve this if they are dedicated to the welfare of the public. But mere political campaign alone won’t do the work,” Sudhakaran attacked the UDF.
It should be inspected why the bypass project was not realised when the same party ruled the state and Centre. Now, they shouldn’t protest. They can only erect flexes on the overbridge not in hearts of the public. The government only installed flexes as per legal guidelines. The others were from the people, Sudhakaran stated adding the media also supported the government in realising the project.
The bypass was built completely under the PWD. Around Rs 200 crore was spent for the bypass approach road and for Railways’ approval. It was a collaborative effort from everyone, he added.
