Aksharamala will be included in textbooks this year, assures Minister V Sivankutty

Thiruvananathapuram: Education Minister V Sivankutty said that the Kerala government would move ahead with their plan to include Malayalam alphabets in the current academic year. The printing of the Malayalam textbook by incorporating alphabets has already started. 

However, the updated textbooks will take at least two years before they reach schools. As a result, the state asked the concerned officials to include a section for the alphabet in the third chapter of Class 1 textbooks and the second chapter of Class 2 textbooks. The revised alphabet (Aksharamala) for the students was adopted earlier by the Administrative Reforms (Official Language) Department. 

In 2009, Aksharamala was removed from the textbooks after a syllabus revision. Following this, cultural and literary figures demanded the need to bring back Aksharamala to the school syllabus. Following this, V Sivankutty announced last year that the alphabet is included in the textbooks from the next academic year onwards.
