Thiruvananthapuram: Even as it was initially decided to investigate the serious allegations raised by ruling MLA P V Anvar against ADGP, Law and Order, M R Ajith Kumar after removing him from the post, later it was decided after a meeting of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Police Chief Sheikh Darvesh Saheb not to make any changes in the top brass and only to entrust lower-level officials to investigate the same.

A note was also reportedly prepared in the police headquarters for the removal of ADGP. However, it was only after the meeting on Monday night that the decision was altered.

The Chief Minister had announced in Kottayam that high-ranking police officials would investigate the same. It was expected that a DGP other than the police chief would be assigned to investigate, but that did not happen. Instead, the police chief was appointed to oversee the investigation.

When the Chief Minister announced the investigation in Kottayam, it was assessed that there might be changes in the top positions in the police department considering the seriousness of the allegation. Then ADGP M R Ajith Kumar along with the police chief participated in the passing out parade of the Adoor KAP battallion.

After that, the police chief had directed an officer at the police headquarters to prepare the recommendation for a change in the police top brass. Accordingly, a note was prepared regarding the changes to be made in the Law and Order Department and other high posts. It is also indicated that the Chief of Police reached the Secretariat with this note at 8 pm and attended the meeting with the Chief Minister. However, all these were disrupted by a notification from the Chief Minister's Office on Monday night which resulted in the top brass being unaffected.

It was reportedly decided to suspend Pathanamthitta SP Sujith Das as well. An investigation report of the DIG had been handed over to the Chief Minister by the police chief stating that SP Sujith Das had acted in such a way affecting the discipline of the Police Department and thereby paving way for the public to ridicule the police.

However, as there was no action other than an investigation announced against ADGP Ajith Kumar, it was decided not to suspend SP Sujith Das but only to be transferred.
